Bakkavor Desserts is based in Newark, Nottinghamshire and specialises in making chilled desserts such as trifles, cream cakes and choux pastries. The site employs over 1,900 people and is one of nine factories that are part of the Bakkavor Bakery sector in the UK.



The Role;
We have a fantastic opening for an Engineering Section Manager on Days.

The role is to manage and deliver the engineering compliance plan, ensuring all required engineers are suitably trained and managed to deliver.

The Engineering Section Manager will; provide support to the business as required and ensure efficient use of all available resources, provide a point of contact for other departments and assume some of the Maintenance Managers / Engineering Manager duties during their absence and assist other departmental teams in achieving their goals.

Duties and Accountabilities;

  • Comply with Bakkavor Desserts, Newark, SHE and all statutory Safety, Health and Environment requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely records are kept of all compliance engineering work carried out, with all corrective work being prioritised and communicated at the right levels.
  • Ensure engineering downtime is minimised, accurately logged using the computerised maintenance system, monitor repair times.
  • Ensure operating and maintenance manuals, diagnostic instructions and special tools are readily available for the shift.
  • Provide engineering support to production to ensure efficient performance of all equipment. Liaise with Production management team to resolve problems quickly and improve performance.
  • Manage contractors and suppliers, audit their work, and ensure work permits are issued and that all work is carried out with no risk to the business. Liaise with suppliers and the Engineering Section Managers to ensure adequate spares and information are made available.
  • Manage, plan, prioritise and audit engineering activities daily and ensure accurate records are maintained for the end of each shift.
  • Provide hands on support to the engineering team and lead by example.

 

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Recognised Level 3 or higher engineering qualification. Ideally apprentice trained
  • Previous experience managing compliance desirable E.G. PSSR, LOLER, FGAS
  • Competent with PC applications and data bases
  • Confident supervisory skills, with the ability to lead and make decisions under pressure.
  • Able to work in a time constrained environment flexibly.
  • Good communication skills at all levels.
  • Proven experience within engineering, experience within chilled food manufacturing is desirable.
