About the role 

This is a Technical Manager role in the Bakkavor Central Technical team. The role is focused on managing the food safety and integrity risks in our supply chain, for the thousands of materials, from hundreds of suppliers, from across the world that Bakkavor procures daily.  

The role will consist of managing a range of materials and risks, including food safety and integrity risks across key suppliers and materials. The role will include auditing suppliers and a high level of stakeholder management, internally and externally. 

With solid leadership and teamworking skills, IT literate, a logical thinker, and with the ability to manage food safety risks – this could be the perfect role for you. 

The role will be flexible / hybrid working, and the successful candidate will need to be able to travel and be away for work occasionally to audit and visit suppliers.  

In this busy and exciting role, you will be accountable for auditing and supporting technical compliance and integrity against legal requirements and good manufacturing standards. 

About you 

Ideally, food related degree qualified, you will have significant experience within a similar role and sectors. 

A background of working across a range of materials and risks, including food safety and integrity risks will be key – as will auditing knowledge and supplier or stakeholder management competency. 

If you are an IT literate, logical thinker, with solid leadership skills and with experience of managing food safety risk – this could be the perfect role for you.

What we do 

We’re the market leader in the UK fresh prepared food industry - supplying meals, salads, desserts, pizza and bread to leading grocery retailers including Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.    

Accountabilities 

Technical standards 

• Ensuring relevant standards are developed, communicated, understood and applied to meet Food Safety, Quality and Legality 

• Providing leadership and ownership for the Central Technical Quality Management System  

Audit 

• Developing and maintaining procedures and schedules to monitor compliance with relevant internal and external food safety standards 

• Ensuring appropriate action plans are documented and delivered within agreed timescales to address any non-compliance identified 

Management & Support 

• Providing technical support to Bakkavor sites as required 

• Utilising knowledge and expertise to exploit potential Bakkavor opportunities 

• Communicating technical best practice where identified to maintain and support Bakkavor reputation as leading fresh food manufacturer  

Customer 

• Ensuring customer interface, internally and externally, is managed professionally and in a timely manner 

• Participating in and contributing to retailer initiatives and providing an interface for any cross-site issues 

Communication 

• Effectively managing communication on all technical matters both internally and externally, to develop relationships and ensure that Bakkavor’s technical opinion is considered and respected 

People 

• Being available to provide practical support to Bakkavor Technical recruitment processes, including AMS and Apprenticeships 

• Participating in mentoring and supporting PDP / CPD plans 

KPI 

• Developing and implementing effective KPI’s that measure, trend and identify issues to be communicated both internally and with customers 

• Developing and agreeing action plans using root cause analysis to deliver continuous improvement 

Training 

• Providing training to develop understanding of food safety and relevant legal requirements for UK businesses 

Health and Safety 

• To operate in a safe working manner and support the site on continuous improvements relating to health and safety
