The role:
Reporting directly in to our Head of Group Warehousing & Distribution, you will work closely with internal stakeholders across all Bakkavor sites as well as external stakeholders including our grocery clients and their 3PL partners.

Our Group Distribution Manager is a varied role with the emphasis on identification of improvement opportunities through data analysis and stakeholder management.  You will be instrumental in the formulation of the group transport strategy though the identification and implementation of future proof transport management systems.  You will seek out system based tools which will have a transformative impact in information visibility to assist decision making that will add real value to the bottom line.

You will collate, review and analyse volume and flow data, to identify and prioritise opportunities for logistics efficiencies to reduce costs and continuously improve our delivery service.  To perform effectively as our Group Distribution Manager you will be a National CPC Holder and ideally have previously held an O-License as well as having current transport legislation knowledge, so you can direct Bakkavor’s internal fleet and work with external stakeholders.

You will be responsible for delivering efficiency projects, where you will work cross-functionally with central finance and onsite logistics teams, so being able to lead and direct remotely is key.  The role will be client facing and therefore you must be confident in your ability to create excellent working relationships with key stakeholders.

Ideally, you will have knowledge and an understanding of fast-paced, chilled food transportation but if you have experience working in major retailers, in a 3PL businesses for a major retailer or wider FMCG and this role interests you, then we would like to hear from you.

Ideally you will live within a reasonable commute of Spalding or another Bakkavor site but there is the expectation that you will spend one/two days per week in Spalding.

Duties will include:

  • Managing the technical and legal requirements related to our transport operations.  Driving continuous improvements to  achieve the highest standards within the industry.
  • Audits to government guidelines regularly and leads the team to exceed targets.
  • Drives technical integrity improvement and quality KPI measures.
  • Ensures all products are distributed to the customer on time and by cost efficient methods.
  • Fully communicate issues to key stakeholders with the business
  • All service KPI’s are exceeded
  • Organises and manages 3rd parties and related resources servicing Bakkavor to exceed agreed targets
  • Coordinates the transport related work flow of materials to exceed customer service where demanded
  • Translates the impact of process performance targets into financial measures which can then be incorporated into the budget preparation process
  • Coaches and mentors the Logistics Managers to the required level of competence
  • Actively develops those with potential to progress from their current role. Mentors others outside own structure
  • Continually reviews structure and challenges effectiveness and seeks improvement opportunities
  • Succession and development planning is in place and is working

About you:

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
  • Have held an Operators Licence within the transport industry
  • Must have up to date knowledge of transport legislation
  • Transport efficiency experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the chilled foods transport market
  • Ability to lead and direct remotely
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and numerical capability
  • Project leadership experience
