The Cost Accounting Manager is a member of the US Central Finance Team. This position is responsible for ensuring an accurate understanding of costs for both newly developed and existing products, and for maintaining accurate inventory costings across the US Group. Supports the Sales & Development functions with costing analysis to support customer growth.

This position coordinates with the site finance/inventory teams for consistency in costing processes and actively works to reduce inventory variances where possible. These inventory variances require a responsibility over both Full Physical and Cycle Count Processes to ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.

The Cost Accounting Manager will be the primary reference point for the site cost accountants, development teams, sales teams as it relates to all product costings. The position will add value by making suggestions for improvements to processes, comparing variances in costings to be rectified, and by supporting profitable sales growth through accurate costing methodologies. There will be one direct report located in Charlotte and three dotted line site cost accountants to oversee for supporting business coverage.

The Cost Accounting Manager will be part of the Bakkavor Group Finance function and will assist with the development and co-ordination of Bakkavor Group Finance Initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to:


  • Review product costings prepared by the sites and development team to ensure accuracy and commercial feasibility
  • Prepare preliminary analysis on new product/customer opportunities
  • Maintain standard costs for labor, material, and BOM accrual and lead annual standards reset
  • Analyze variances between standards and actuals for risk and opportunities
  • Understand and drive inflationary analysis to support sales team with pricing recommendations
  • Drive budgetary inflation and inventory variance guidance for the sites
  • Review development pipeline and costs for financial opportunities and risks
  • Support and propose costing updates to increase understanding of expenses
  • Work with IT to increase data collection, improve reporting, and build sustainable reporting models particularly around inventory cost
  • Review restatement of site P&L’s with other finance team members
  • Own backup responsibilities for period end inventory close out each month (occurs on a Saturday or Sunday)
  • Review inventory reconciliations investigating discrepancies for errors in system processing, particularly around material usage and job variances
  • Support sites for consistency and accuracy of data reporting
  • Supports actions in other functions by mitigating risk and prioritizing resource needs
  • Work across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve Bakkavor objectives
  • Shares best practices, i.e. process improvements, financial modeling and procedural changes with other Bakkavor USA facilities
  • Gracefully solves problems and drive results.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Education – BBA in Accounting or Finance, MBA and/or CMA is a plus
  • Two - plus years costing background or equivalent leadership responsibilities
  • Strong financial acumen and profound analytical ability
  • Critical thinking, problem solving and decision making through analytics and data
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Strength in MS Office suite, with emphasis on MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Outlook
