About the role 

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Factory Technical Manager to join Boston Meals. The site employs over 700 people and specialises in making chilled Italian ready meals and pasta salads products for a dedicated customer.

 

The main focus of the role is to drive the delivery of Technical Standards across the sites’ Operations. 

 

The role will ensure that the correct standards are understood by all relevant persons and effectively challenged, by way of Audit. This will underpin the sites Food Safety, Product Quality and Integrity – and hence demonstrate our leading standards.

 

Accountabilities 

  • Ensure there is clarity of Technical Standards – which are effectively Communicated, Understood and Applied.
  • Ensure that the Business develops an ‘Audit Ready’ Culture – to consistently deliver successful audit outcomes. 
  • Ensure relevant standards, HACCP based as appropriate, are communicated, understood and applied to meet Food Safety, Quality and Legality, and customer specified requirements. The standards must be documented and maintained within a recognised system.
  • Provides leadership and ownership for the implementation of the quality management systems associated with the production of food to the agreed safety, legal and quality standards.
  • Support the business with management of technical audits, hosting audits as appropriate. Drives a culture of “fit to manufacture every day” readiness through the daily operational teams. Manages response & close out of non-conformance reports from audits as required.
  • Lead, motivate and inspire the technical team in line with Bakkavor Values to achieve personal development and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement effective KPIs that measure, trend and identify issues to be communicated both internally and with customers. Develop and agree action plans using root
  • cause analysis to deliver continuous improvement. 
  • Provides practical support and drive to promote a Quality Assurance culture in the Business.  Provides specialist technical knowledge to enable the Business Unit to exploit manufacturing, NPD and commercial advantage whilst ensuring the required standards of Food Safety, Quality and Legality are met. As part of the site leadership team, ensures operational team promotion of a Quality Assurance culture within the factory environment.
  • Ensures that a safe working environment exists for all employees within the technical function, and that as a minimum, the standards set out in the site processes for Health and Safety.

 

About you 

Ideally, food related degree qualified, you will have significant experience within a Chilled Food environment – and a good understanding of High Care, High Risk, RTE, RtRH and RTC disciplines. 

 

You will be a clear and effective communicator – able to ‘frame’ situations / incidents etc – to a wide range of stakeholders – to gain their understanding and commitment.  

 

A calm logical thinker – an evidence based decision maker, who when challenged can demonstrate rationale of thought.

 

Thorough, tenacious and resilient – an individual who will use these attributes to understand and address the root cause of Complaint issues, adverse micro results etc.

 

If you are IT literate, quick and agile in processing data (eg KPI’s), have solid leadership skills and experience of managing food safety risks – this could be the perfect role for you.
