About the role

A fantastic opportunity for a Warehouse Shift Manager has arisen at our Premier Park Distribution Centre. The Distribution Centre services manufacturing facilities both on and off site for the receipt, storage, pick and despatch of chilled food production to foodservice and major retailers along with an inter-site service to manufacturing sites across the Bakkavor group. This is supporting the 3 manufacturing sites in London which distribute through Premier Park DC

 

 As a Shift Manager, you will support, manage, organise, and control all activities within the Distribution Centre plus, liaise with and support the internal / external cross functional links of the business and beyond. You will require strong relationships with stakeholders, the site team at all levels and assign, train, and organise colleagues within your area. Alongside this, manage productivity and performance ensuring the required service levels & performance results are achieved.
 
What you will do?

  • Health & Safety – Pro-actively manage to ensure that a safe working environment exists for all employees within the area by supporting and enforcing standards set out in the Group Health and Safety policy as a minimum.
  • Quality Standards – To lead and drive standards of quality, food safety, hygiene, and housekeeping to ensure both business and customer standards are maintained, and audit requirements are fully met.
  • Performance Management - Appropriately manage the performance of all team members using Bakkavor performance management systems, and if necessary, to impose disciplinary sanctions in accordance with company policy through to dismissal stage.
  • Training & Development – To own the training and development of all levels of team. Actively coach, develop, recruit and train team members to the required level of competence to encourage continuous improvement within the business.
  • Performance Improvement using KPIs – Challenges and introduces new KPIs to drive performance. Ensures team delivers agreed KPIs across the operation ensuring systems are in place to collect the necessary data to measure performance against the agreed KPIs. Develops and implements PIPs and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Resource Management - Plan, organise and measure labour requirements within the area to ensure that agreed targets are met. Assess working trends including increased volume, budgets, seasons, and training needs and adjust shift patterns and materials handling requirements in a cost-effective manner to ensure that both short-and tong-term agreed targets are met.
  • Employee Relations – Supports and encourages the Bakkavor values and a positive culture within their area, whilst fostering good employee relations through fair, consistent and effective people management. Supports an effective SEF representation structure in their area.

 

What will you need?

You will ideally have experience working within a distribution / warehouse environment and will have led teams in a fast-paced business handling multiple products with short shelf-life

You will have experience of WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) to control and manage stock levels

You will understand safety and quality compliance and how these expectations need to be met

You will be a competent and confident leader capable of inspiring and engaging with your team to deliver results plus, promote continuous improvements within your area

You will possess a focused and balanced understanding towards the pressures of operating within a fast-moving warehouse / distribution environment.
